And the jesus imagery is interesting as well. Ceaseless fixation on nakedness confiscated too many pages, making the revolutionary quest and compelling mystical dynamics secondary.
Not for the fainthearted none of his books are. The novel’s greatest weakness, however, is the characters. That is yet to be proven.

The language is absolutely inspired in places. Oddly enough, it seems as if the plot could easily fl summed up in the next hundred pages from the end that part one had. Vocabulary is elevated, with thought-stirring eloquence even in a bizarre concert of words denoting squalor. The writing is VERY long winded.
