The story here is that I never watched a video for intuitive F2L because they were all too long. I find that I learn better from videos, but I’m also. F2L (First 2 Layers) is a way of continuing after solving the cross. In most cases those algorithms are simply the intuitive pair-and-insert. The name CFOP comes from the steps involved (Cross, F2L, OLL, PLL), and you . Rather than relying on a big table of algorithms, F2L is best done intuitively.

Being able to tutofial it and perform it without thinking will make the task of learning lots of algorithms much, much easier. To build a 1x2x2 block a D-layer corner and two edge pieces are needed a D-face edge and a mid-slice edge. The first approach involves taking each edge piece, putting it above where it needs to go, and turning the appropriate face twice to place the piece on the bottom layer.
Case 6 Corner on F2, Edge in Middle. It does take time to get used to, and it doesn’t really matter how long you take when you’re practising. If doing the cross on the bottom takes much longer than when doing it on the top, don’t be disheartened!
F2L can tutoriak a little difficult to get your head around. U2 R U2 R’. However, the second algorithm is much faster to perform, as it is essentially the tutrial few moves performed three times. PLL gets the same treatment, as we’ll be permuting the corners first and then the edges. I have not had time to make sure all these moves are correct. This step aims to permute the edge pieces, which by now you have probably worked out is also called EPLL. If you perform each algorithm as quickly as humanly possible, you don’t leave yourself much time to analyse the cube and isolate the next corner-edge pair you want to solve.
F2L combines steps 2 and 3 of my beginner solution, but it requires approximately the same number of moves as step tutoriap alone. Members Current visitors New profile posts Search profile posts.
If you used the second algorithm instead, then the same thing happens to red-blue corner and edge pieces, but now the red-green pieces are much happier and are in a position to be solved much more easily.
What’s even better is that these few algorithms are used in the full CFOP method anyway, so we’re not wasting any time! Or you can check the advanced F2L section. So for OLL, instead of orienting every piece in the last layer at once, we’ll do the edges first and then the corners. Wiki tools Special pages. It simply solves each piece relative to each otherand then places them in one go.
Because it was taken already, that’s why. You simply repeat these steps for each of the four corners, and solve each F2L pair in turn. In order to reduce tutorrial step into bite-sized chunks which can be recognised and executed quickly, the r2l is split into four parts:. In general the 1x2x2 block should always come before its connecting 1x1x2 block, otherwise more moves will be required later.
It is difficult to teach intuition, but through practice it should eventually just ‘click’ in your head. These miscellaneous techniques can help you improve your speed in the step.
– CFOP – First 2 Layers (F2L)
This leaves the slot receiving the adjoining 1x1x2 in an ‘open’ position. Both Top Type 1 Case 3: The only pairs that needs both R and F turns are the six ones with the edge unoriented in the slot, if the edge is oriented in the slot both ways works. Retrieved from ” https: They also f2o to use more double layer turns like d as opposed U y’.
Home Old Updates Contact Me. The important part of F2L is being able to solve each of the pairs without affecting any of the other previously solved pairs. At this pace, you remove the temptation to focus only on the pieces that you are currently applying an algorithm to, and you can easily be looking at the rest of the cube to find the next F2L pair.
The idea of F2L is to pair each of the four bottom layer corners with the corresponding edge piece and then insert them into the correct ff2l.
It can be quite difficult certainly so if you’ve only just started doing it upside down but with practice it will become very easy to isolate only the four edge pieces you need and formulate a basic plan to get them into a cross. Here’s a similar example:. If the desired corner or edge pieces are not in the U layer, then they’ll need to be brought up before these cases can be applied. Last Layer Edge Control coming soon!
Full CFOP takes some dedication.

Compare these two algorithms:. It takes practise, and the next little section is all about how to be better at F2L. Why not see how well you can do with the timerand tutoiral do get in touch if you have anything you’d like to say, or leave a comment below! This completes the cube, which you probably know looks like this:.
Fridrich (CFOP) Method
If the required pieces are already in the U-layer, but connected incorrectly they’ll need to be separated before they can be solved. Introduction Notation Step 1: Wasting time is bad. For each case, there will be a “method” how to convert it to one of the basic cases and an “algorithm” in with a bullet in front of it.
Because no rotations are used, it is not possible to check these pieces directly tutoriaal this creates a challenge for lookahead.
